Torhaveen Farms invited to a Thistle Guild Meeting

Drummond & I were pleased to be invited to a local hand-spinner association meeting of the Thistle Guild in Williamstown ON to take part in a recent educational presention on evaluating fleeces.

We brought with us a wide selection of our raw Shetland fleeces to be evaluated, with some being sold to the guild for future projects.

We learned alot about the process of growing quality fleeces, handling and storing fleeces and processing the wool. Up until this point, our focus has been on the animal husbandry side of owning and breeding Shetlands and not strongly focused on the fibre. We are very grateful for all the constructive criticism received, advice and encouragement as we further understand the benefits of Shetland fibre, look towards improving the quality of our fleeces through feeding care, breeding and fibre storage and the potential market for quality fleeces.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to Claudette and Dianne especially, whose friendly advice and warmth of spirit was so welcomed!
